The Gospel of Mary reveals a transformational power that exists within all of us, no matter who we are.
The Gospel of Mary, and other texts labeled “apocryphal,” or “of doubtful authenticity,” like The Acts of Paul and Thecla challenged the patriarchal structure of power in the 1st century by demonstrating that women were as worthy as men to hold positions of spiritual authority.
And to find this transformational power, all we need to do is turn inward, be still, and acquire a form of spiritual perception The Gospel of Mary refers to as “the eye of the heart.” This allows us to see past the ego of our own little lives to what’s more real, and lasting, and infinite, and already here, within.
Through lecture, lively discussion, and practice of the soul-voice meditation, we’ll discover the secret teachings Christ gave to Mary, why she was uniquely meant to receive them, and why they’re radical, even for today.
We’ll return home with a personal experience of the love The Gospel of Mary reveals, the love that has the power to change everything.
WHAT WE’LL REVEAL
The teachings in The Gospel of Mary are powerfully made for these times. We’ll reveal together the secret teachings Christ gave to Mary, and why they are so profound for us personally now. We’ll reveal the history of the earliest form of Christianity, contextualizing The Gospel of Mary within the 1st century, and we’ll draw from the wisdom of other sacred texts like The Gospel of Philip and The Gospel of Thomas.
And all throughout the weekend, we’ll be practicing the soul-voice meditation so that we’ll not just acquire academic knowledge about Mary Magdalene, but also we’ll begin to integrate her teachings personally, from a direct experience with the form of love Mary knew by heart.
Each section of the retreat will include both a meditation and ample time for questions. And the Saturday afternoon section will conclude with a book signing and a chance to speak one on one with Meggan.
This retreat is an opportunity to reassess and realign, to make certain the choices we make in our lives come from the soul. This is a chance to connect to the source of love that is right here within us, and that has always offered us a freedom that has always been ours.
YOUR FACILITATOR
MEGGAN WATTERSON is the Wall Street Journal bestselling author of Mary Magdalene Revealed. She is a feminist theologian with a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School and a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary. She created The House of Mary Magdalene– a spiritual community that studies the sacred texts left out of the traditional canon and practices the soul-voice meditation. Her work has appeared in media outlets such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, HuffPost, TEDxWomen, and Marie Claire. Her most recent book, The Girl Who Baptized Herself, was recommended by Glennon Doyle in ELLE as “the book that kept me up way too late.”
